I’ll Be There in a Minute: Essential Polish Phrases

In this lesson, we will focus on a simple and practical question in Polish:

"Gdzie jesteś?" (Where are you?)

This phrase is incredibly useful in everyday conversations. We’ll also learn how to respond to it and use similar expressions in other situations, such as making plans or confirming your location.

After breaking down the key phrases, we’ll go through several short dialogues that are perfect for beginners to practice speaking Polish in real-life contexts.
Phrase 1: Gdzie jesteś?
  • Meaning: "Where are you?"
  • Explanation:
    • Gdzie means "where."
    • Jesteś is the second person singular form of the verb być (to be), meaning "you are."

Phrase 2:Zaraz będę w Łodzi.
  • Meaning: "I’ll be in Łódź in a moment."
  • Explanation:
    • Zaraz means "in a moment" or "soon."
    • Będę is the first person singular future form of być (to be), meaning "I will be."
    • w Łodzi means "in Łódź."
      • Note: The name Łódź changes to Łodzi in the locative case due to the preposition w ("in").
Dialogues for Practice

Dialogue 1:
  • A: Gdzie jesteś? (Where are you?)
  • B: Zaraz będę w Łodzi. (I’ll be in Łódź in a moment.)

Dialogue 2:
  • A: Gdzie jesteś? (Where are you?)
  • B: Zaraz będę w domu. (I’ll be home soon.)
  • A: Dobrze, czekam na ciebie. (Okay, I’m waiting for you.)

Dialogue 3:
  • A: Gdzie jesteś? (Where are you?)
  • B: Zaraz będę w domu. (I’ll be home in a moment.)
  • A: Obiad już jest gotowy. (Dinner is already ready.)
  • B: Super, zaraz będę. (Great, I’ll be there soon.)
By practicing these short dialogues, you can become more confident in asking and answering questions about location in Polish.

Remember, repetition and consistent practice are key to mastering these basics.

Try changing the locations or responses to personalize the dialogues for your needs!
